What happens when you delete

For most reasons, deletion is immediate.The moment you confirm, your account is closed: your profile stops appearing in search and in other members’ matches, and nobody can open it, message you or see your photos, your deen details or your Istikhara journal again.

If you select Found a match on SalafiMatch, deletion is not immediate. The request appears as pending, your account stays active, and other close or delete attempts are locked while our team contacts you on WhatsApp. The admin completes or declines the request after that review.

Removing the underlying data from our systems and our backups is not instant, because backups are written on a schedule rather than on demand. Deletion requests are actioned within 7 days.

Two things that are not account deletion, and are worth saying plainly:

• Deleting the app from your phone does not delete your account. Your profile stays live and visible until you delete the account itself.
• Deleting your account does not cancel a paid subscription. See below.

What we keep, and why

We do not keep your profile. We do keep a record of the account after it is deleted, for three reasons, all of which exist to protect the other members of the community:

• Fraud prevention - so an account removed for fraud cannot simply be created again the next morning.
• Member safety - so someone reported for harassment or for misrepresenting who they are cannot return under a new profile and reach the same people.
• Dispute resolution - so we can answer a complaint, a payment query or a lawful request from an authority about something that happened before the account was deleted.

We may also be required to retain limited records for longer where the law of India obliges us to. That is retention, not use: a retained record is not shown to other members, is not used for matching, and is not used to market anything to you.
